It appears that you have been keeping important information from me.
can we take a second to appreciate that kirk is working his cute butt off not to break his promise to old spock because this is the one rule he must not break and he is TRYING SO HARD even though rule breaking is basically his default mode and you can tell he has NO IDEA WHAT TO DO here so he just wanders off awkwardly.

“Bones! Buckle up.”
A good representation of the Star Trek movie (2009).
I spent all afternoon making this, hopefully no one has done this yet.

#like okay one part of what makes spock/uhura in stxi SO GLORIOUS to me #is that we’re set up to expect that kirk and uhura will hook up EVENTUALLY #because he hits on her in the bar in the beginning and she’s like THANKS BUT NO THANKS #but kirk is the hero and the way these things work in stories like this is the hero gets the girl #even if he’s a douche who has no idea how to pick up girls he’ll do something to prove himself and get the prize #BUT NOPE #nyota uhura is the hero of her own secret story #where she’s smart and competent and has a talented tongue #and she gets the boy SHE CHOOSES who loves her and respects her #WHOOPS UHURA AND SPOCK WIN #except — it was never actually a competition it was just a love story we didn’t know about #kirk was never in the running and spock was never ~competing~ with anyone and uhura was never a prize at all #haha THERE IS NO LOVE TRIANGLE HERE #what a good movie guys #what. a. good. movie. #!!!!!!!

#obligatory drop everything and read mindmeld fic #because jim just got the emotional whiplash of literally decades #worth of the relationship he and spock were supposed to have and didn’t have and had already had #where thirty seconds ago he didn’t even know this dude who got him put on probation and thrown off of a moving starship #even had emotions #lOOK AT HIS FACE I THINK IT’S AN UNDERSTANDABLE FACE #god #stxi #the blogger reverts to old fandoms at the slightest provocation

#you can ACTUALLY SEE THE EQUATION IN HIS EYES #in that tiny little second he’s quantified every variable #worked out the most risky plan but also the plan that is most likely to have the best outcome of them all #and already moved onto ‘how to i put this into motion’ #it’s like people don’t actually understand that the whole ‘do you like being the only genius-level repeat offender in the midwest’ #WAS NOT ACTUALLY HYPERBOLE #jim kirk IS A GENIUS but because it doesn’t come across in the same way as it does with spock #he behaves the way society has taught us that geniuses behave #jim kirk is a genius but he doesn’t always want you to know that
